Climax-Scotts Elementary School
Music News
The Second and Third Grade Students traveled to Chenery Auditorium on Tuesday, March 3 to attend the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra Youth Concert. Last year they learned about how the orchestra has changed over the last 400 years. In addition to learning about instruments, they also studied how the world has changed in the following areas: music, composers, inventions, clothing, food, dancing, and living conditions. All of the elementary students are getting a “taste” of these interesting parts of music and history in their music classes. Music – it’s not just for singing!

Malmark Choirchime® Instruments
With this remarkable hand-held chime instrument, the ability to produce music is almost immediate. Within minutes, any group can successfully play melodies and experience the joys of making real music regardless of their musical training. Whether using traditional or non-traditional symbols to notate music, ringers quickly gain the countless benefits of such a positive experience. We have purchased four octaves, they were a great success at our Christmas Concert.

Yamaha Music in Education Music Keyboard System
The Intermediate School students are very fortunate to have access to the Music in Education System. This great learning tool consists of 30 student keyboard stations linked together and teacher controlled through a computer. The students will be able to experience over 150 instrument voices and many rhythm patterns. They will become familiar with many styles of music by listening, discussing, duplicating, and producing them. They will learn the elements of music through hands-on applications, and develop and expand their creativity by experimenting with composition.
Students quickly lose their inhibitions when playing, since they wear headphones, which allow them to hear only themselves, or themselves in one ear and their partner in the other ear. Projects integrating Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies are included in the included curriculum. This system was paid for by the school, the Music Boosters, a Golden Apple Grant and the PTA. Our students are very fortunate to be able to have such a unique experience in music.
Music not only touches and enriches our student’s lives, but provides them with a great emotional outlet!
